A Community Centre was planned to provide a meeting place for the growing numbers of Christadelphians who had made Olivet their home in the hostel and independent living units and was opened in July 1998. It is centrally located and used by residents and ecclesias for a number of functions which include memorial meetings – is the home of the Ringwood ecclesia, conferences, youth activities, weddings, celebrations, dinners and fund raising activities. The centre has a large seating capacity of around 200 and because of this is often used for larger Christadelphians gathering including funeral services. Some features of the Community Centre are a well designed spacious kitchen which adequately caters for the largest of functions, an ecclesial library cum computer room, a hairdressing/podiatry room and an under croft which is fully enclosed. The Community Centre overlooks an expansive garden area named the Almond garden where a pathway at disabled grade leads down to the nursing home, hostel and retirement village. This park area provides a link between the independent living unit areas and can be used for entertainment or a peaceful stroll. A number of garden and paved areas are situated around the nursing home and hostel providing beauty and a pleasant outlook as well as allowing area to wander in and for entertaining family and friends. The welfare association has chosen to locate its facility on a single site and this has allowed us to concentrate our service and care creating a small village atmosphere where Brethren and Sisters feel secure. Olivet is in a central quiet location close to public transport and major shopping centres. A well maintained walking track meanders beside the Mullum Mullum creek which takes you to shopping areas as well as to a popular lake used often for picnics and family outings. |
